Methods for detecting the accuracy of precision sheet metal

Dec 20, 2024|

The methods for detecting the accuracy of precision sheet metal mainly include the following:

Measuring tool selection:

Caliper: Suitable for measuring linear dimensions such as length, width, thickness, etc. of sheet metal parts, with an accuracy of generally 0.02mm - 0.1mm. For smaller sheet metal parts or when the thickness needs to be accurately measured, calipers are one of the commonly used measuring tools.

Micrometer: It can more accurately measure the thickness of sheet metal materials and the outer diameter of some smaller sizes, etc., with a measurement accuracy of up to 0.001mm - 0.01mm, and is often used for sheet metal parts with high dimensional accuracy requirements.

Tape measure: It is used to measure the length and width of larger sheet metal parts. Its accuracy is relatively low, generally 0.5mm - 1mm, but it is more convenient and practical in the preliminary measurement of some large sheet metal structural parts that do not require high dimensional accuracy.

Angle ruler: It is specially used to measure the bending angle of sheet metal parts, with an accuracy of 0.1° - 1° to ensure that the bending angle meets the design requirements.

Three-dimensional coordinate measuring machine: It can accurately measure the three-dimensional size and shape error of sheet metal parts. The measurement accuracy is extremely high, reaching 0.001mm or even higher, and is suitable for sheet metal parts with complex shapes.
Three-dimensional detection technology:

Laser scanner: An efficient detection tool that has emerged in recent years. It can quickly capture the three-dimensional data of sheet metal parts and compare and analyze them with CAD models to find any slight deviations.

Three-dimensional coordinate measuring machine (CMM): It can accurately measure the three-dimensional size and shape error of sheet metal parts, and is suitable for sheet metal parts with complex shapes.

Surface quality inspection:

Surface flatness: Check whether the surface of the sheet metal material is flat by visual observation or hand touch. The surface of high-quality sheet metal materials should be smooth without obvious unevenness, waves or wrinkles.

Color uniformity: Check whether the color of the surface of the sheet metal material is uniform. The surface of a normal sheet metal material should have a uniform metallic luster without color spots, black spots or rust.

Edge condition: Check whether the edge of the material is neat and smooth, and whether there are burrs, cracks or delamination. The quality of the edge directly affects the safety and convenience of subsequent processing.
